The Former Pubs of Hereford: The Greyhound Dog

As you drive past Asda at the bottom of Belmont Road you may remember the derelict pub that once stood where the grassy area near the superstore entrance now is. The pub was of course The Greyhound Dog.

It had been closed for many years before it was finally demolished one Sunday around seven years ago and looked in a very sorry state during its last few years.

Originally the first house in Belmont Road its origins as a pub can be traced back to the early part of the 19th century.

Below is a picture of how you will probably remember this pub, shortly before it was knocked down to make way for Asda.

Alcohol prices rise [but only in Scotland]

It seems our friends north of the border are going to see a big rise in alcohol prices. There are plans to introduce a minimum price for a unit of alcohol; with the Scottish National Party Government proposing to set the price at 45p per unit. This could have a wider impact in Britain as a whole as our Westminster Parliament could follow suit in a few years, putting an end to cheap drink.
