Snooker Loopy in Telford

On Monday 15th December the HM Pub Guide Team travelled to Telford to watch the UK Snooker Championship. Upon our arrival we immediately sussed out the venue and then promptly headed for the nearest drinking establishment for a spot of lunch and a pint.

The complete review of The Thomas Botfield Pub can be seen by clicking here. Although it was your typical Wetherspoons, it did posses some unique features, and at a fiver for a burger and beer you can't go wrong.

On the snooker front I must confess that a great time was had by all. We watched various sessions from different matches, including: Ding Junhui v Steve Davis; Shaun Murphy v Gould; John Higgins v Joe Swail; as well as seeing John Parrott and Hazel Irvine in the Cue Zone, and bumping into Marco Fu in the corridor!

It was definitely worth the visit and for all snooker fans out there we'll see you at The Welsh Open in Newport in February 2009.

The Pubs of Prague

A couple of weeks ago Myself and Miss W spent a delightful few days in Prague. Whilst there we of course took the opportunity to visit some of the local pubs.

To those visiting the Czech Republic it should be noted that there are a few distinct differences between pubs there and those back home. The first is that smoking is prevalent everywhere and nowhere that we visited even had a non-smoking area.

Also of note is that the normal practice is to keep a tab at the bar and settle the bill at the end of the evening. Additionally, watch out for some cunning publicans leaving snacks on your table for you to sample only to sneakily charge for them later - even if you hadn't requested them.

The good news is that beer is cheap, cheap, cheap in Prague. Expect to pay half the price you do in the UK per pint - well, per half litre anyway.

In total we officially reviewed 3 Prague boozers. Click the links below for the full details:
Redeta (pictured left and centre)
Cafe Mojito (pictures right)
and
Cafe Riva (pictures too dark to show!)

Pretty soon we'll be setting up a seperate International Pubs page with reviews from around the globe. If you have any pubs you'd like is to include send us a review in the usual way.

More Viewer Reviews Added

We have just uploaded the latest reviews sent in by you, our avid readers. We have had two reviews of the Old Market Inn (which can be seen in the centre of the picture above) sent in. Both Jo and Zoe W found the pub to be friendly and: "Well worth a visit."

JB has visited Manhattans and describes it as a marmite pub, i.e. you either love it or hate it. To read the full reviews just click on the above reviewers names.

Don't forget to vote for the pub of the year and enter the festive photographic competition; and keep those reviews coming in. Happy drinking!!!
