What's the best Christmas Song?
With just a month to go until the big day, we have been beginning to think more and more about Christmas (but still haven’t started my shopping though!!!)
Over the years there have been a lot of Christmas songs, but what’s your favourite? There’s a wide variety to choose from:
Over the years there have been a lot of Christmas songs, but what’s your favourite? There’s a wide variety to choose from:
- Classics such as “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” that seem to be on every advert on TV; who says the license fee is a bad thing- at least we can escape to the BBC!
- 1970’s pop- like “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” or “Merry Christmas Everybody”
- Cliff- no Christmas is complete without Cliff Richard, whether it’s “Mistletoe and Wine” or “Saviours Day”, just don’t mention the awful “Millennium Prayer”.
- Ex-Beatles: Paul’s “Wonderful Christmastime” or John’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”.
- 1980’s pop- classics such as “Last Christmas” or “Fairytale Of New York”.
- Band Aid- but which version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas” is the best. Personally I like the often forgotten second version from 1989 featuring Kylie and Jason.
- Or do you like the traditional carols?
- and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I haven’t even mentioned Jona Lewie, Aled Jones, Mud, Kate Bush, David Essex, Boney M etc. the list is endless. Did I mention Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and all the other crooners???
But my personal favourite has to be Chris De Burgh’s “A Spaceman Came Travelling”. However, saying that, the best Christmas jingle has to be from the Coca-Cola advert “Holidays Are Coming”.
And on that bombshell I’ll leave you with this message: “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”
